The goal in this final round robin game of the Fall Classic was to save the playoff pitchers, while putting the game in the win column. The Martin boys (who are running the pitching staff) gave the ball to Skip Treece to start the game. Well, Skip made them look like geniuses! He went 8 strong innings, scattering 7 hits and walking just 2, while striking out 3. Skip kept his defense in the game by throwing a high percentage of strikes and working quickly between pitches. This helped greatly as the defense turned 4 double plays while Skip was on the hill. Skip surrendered the ball in the 9th inning so that Mike Labarge could pitch. Mike worked a scoreless 9th to preserve the shutout. The Albany Blue Bombers scored 4 times in the second, 1 in the third, 3 in the fifth, 1 in the sixth, and 2 in the ninth for a 11-0 shutout. Pete Geanellis, Mike Girard, Paul Celantano, Tom Maney, and Mike Labarge all had two hits for the Bombers, and John Reel led the way with a double and two singles. The Bombers are the 3 seed and the playoffs start tomorrow at 9:00 am and noon.
Skipper!!!!!!! what did you do to that boy Dee??? Being in Freekin cold rainy Syracuse all week Girard has me hanging on each post. This is more exciting than being at the SU game the other night. Only wish I was there. Couple of more games boys. Find a way to get it done!
Boy could we use you two down here. Pitching and defense will win this thing, and you guys would be a great help! Keep your fingers crossed. I think we have enough pitching and a good enough defense to get us to the championship Saturday morning. If we do, we will rely on Ted Martin to pitch that one! Sound familiar Randy?
