Wally Lozano

For all you older baseball guys out there - I encourage you to read the obit (at the link below) in the Times-Union for Waldo "Wally" Lozano who passed away this past Monday. Many of you played ball with or did sports equipment business with him over the years and he epitomized the kind of ball players that came up thru the various leagues in the Capital District over the years. His hitting performance in a tournament in Las Vegas just a month ago was just outstanding. Additionally - he was one of the finest family men I've ever run across. Please remember Wally and family in your thoughts and prayers.

Brad,

I'm am so sad to hear about Wallys passing. I was fortunate to compete against him back in the early 70's, when I played fast pitch softabll in the prestigious Sportsman Park Softball League in Schenectady. Sportsmans wsa probably one of the top 3 Fast pitch leagues in the country. which I'm sure you remember Brad, and others that go back that far.
Wally (lefty stick/3B) was one heck of a talent, and great guy to boot. I know he's played in the Clifton Park Softball league for seniors for a number of years. Prayers go out to his family and friends. Wally will truly be missed, no doubt about it.
Thanks for the heads up Brad.

The baseball legacy that Wally lived was passed down to his family. I played with his son, Jim Lozano with the Latham Padres in Connie Mack and with Big Dom's in the Twilight League. Jim was an oustanding pitcher for both teams in the early eighties. I have since seen Jim's son play with Ron Lochner's son (Josh)on the Guilderland varsity baseball team. Wally was always there showing his support. His love for the game was obvious in everything he did. The obituary mentioned that Wally hit .722 in the Vegas tournament that Brad mentioned!!! Capital District baseball lost a good friend on Monday. Wally, you will be missed. The wake will be at St.Pius Church in Loudonville on Friday, 12/2, from 3:00 - 8:00pm.

i too am sorry to hear about wally's death. i was aware that he played softball, and the stats mike posted are really impressive. his size, which was about 5'9 with some heft, and his soft-spoken demeanor didn't suggest he had that kind of hit in him, but obviously he did.

i knew wally chiefly as a salesman for anaconda sports. it was to wally i went when i first created the peppers in 2000 and he got me through the maze of ordering the right equipment at a good price. if i had any questions or problems and i couldn't reach him at the office, he encouraged me to call him at home. i did a few times, and he always resolved every issue promptly. things changed and i went elsewhere when anaconda became a mail order business, but the value of his attention and help linger with me, as does my appreciation that he always made sure we were ready for opening day.

MIKE G, and local baseball fans;

I knew Wally, and his son threw the Twilight League and always remembered both as special ballplayers, and exception men.
I am sadden by his passing, and can't help but feel a part of my baseball upbringing
has been lost.
My hart goes out to Wally and his family.
It really emphasizes how lucky we all are
to enjoy this game we love as we grow older.

Please all, remember Mike Lannon Dec 6th, as he battles cancer surgery next week.

I would ask all my CDMSBL brothers,
please remember Mike and Wally in your prayers this week.

We are family.
