Labor Day

While it was a scramble to put together a 38 team and still play in the 47s, too, our 38 team, despite its 1-3 record, was competitive while developing new bonds.
We had a player from L.I., one from Dutchess County, and two brothers who live in Pensacola, Fla. and Schenectady, on the roster. And they can't wait till next year!
Plus, Jack Perry, Mike Aiello, Joe Hauser, Brian Musella, Ron Smacka, Don McCann, Matt Kelly, Dick Stark for a game, and Richie Knaupp, gave us a solid team.
We lost to eventual champ Dutchess County, 11-0, in the opener, then lost to Bristol, 3-1, in our second game on Saturday. Dutchess beat Bristol for the title. Hauser pitched a great game against Bristol.
On Sunday, we beat the Manchester Eagles, 4-1, behind the 4-hit route job of JimK, then lost to the L.I. Mets, 8-0, in the semis. We only trailed in that one 3-0 going into the 5th. But Hauser is human and couldn't go past the 4th after pitching the day before.
The Mets won the American title, 11-1, beating the New Hampshire Patriots.
So, we lost to the top 3 teams in the tournament and failed to be in just one of the games. And just to put our effort against Dutchess in perspective, that team allowed NO RUNS the entire tournament and won its second game 11-0, it's third game 5-0 and the title game 3-0.
The guys all want to reunite next year with an additional pitcher or two.
Overall, we had a great time. As Jack Perry said, you can pay $65 for a round of golf, and we pay $50 to play 4 baseball games. What a bargain!
JK
