Pete Geannelis did it all for the Blue Thunder on Sunday, pitching two-plus innings of scoreless relief to pick up the win, and belting a fence-clearing homer to ice an 8-4 victory over the Reds at New Scotland. Geannelis came on in relief of starter Jim Ansel in the fifth with the score tied at 4-4, and got the final out with the go-ahead run on. The Thunder pushed across a run to make it 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth before Geannelis lauched his towering drive over the fence in left for a 7-4 lead. An RBI single by Jon Martin in the bottom of the sixth gave the Thunder some breathing room, and Geannelis, who pitched hitless relief, enjoyed a 1-2-3 inning in the seventh and finished the game with a strikeout. Neither Ansel or Geannelis walked a batter in the entire game and were aided by solid defense behind them -- especially the rock solid play of Pete Laflamme at third base. Geannelis drove in a run in the first with a single, a run in the third on a sacrifice fly, and finished up a 4 RBI day with his homer. Stan Parese also chipped in with two hits, two runs and two stolen bases. Joe Burns, Dave VanWormer, Ed Class and Will Ferguson each had two hits to pace the Reds, who saw their 6-game win streak come to and end. The win catapulted the Blue Thunder past the Reds into second place. The Thunder now stands 7-3 and the Reds fall to 6-3.
