Phil Gadomski was a last minute decision as starter for the Golden Marlins on Saturday morning. That was only because he threw 5 very full innings on Thursday night, in a game that ended at 10:30 pm at Bob Moore. The Saturday 9:30 am start gave him just 36 hours rest. Well as far as last minute decisions go, this was a great one! Phil would only give up a bunt single to Ron Massaroni in the 2nd inning (and that was a bang-bang play). Mash gave up just two walks, while striking out 3, in pitching the gem! Phil is making quite a case for himself for 45+ MVP in 2011! Phil is 7-0 as a Golden Marlins pitcher, with an ERA well below 3.00 and is hitting a robust .552!!! There are still 6 games to go in the regular season, but that is quite a resume already!
The Golden Marlins would get on the board on a one out RBI single by Gadomski, in the second inning. The Fish would make it 2-0, in the fourth, on a lead-off single and stolen base by Mike Girard, and a RBI single by Ron Lochner. The third run would come, in the fifth, on a lead-off walk and stolen base by Mike Clary. Bob Coffey would execute a perfect sacrafice bunt, and John Reel would follow with a sacrafice fly to make it 3-0. The Marlins would close out the scoring in the sixth with a one out double by Girard and a single by Lochner, followed by an error. Golden Marlins win 4-0. The Marlins would move their record to 9-1 with the win, and the Thunder would drop to 8-4.
