The WhizKids defeated the Americans 14-5 in the 1st round of the 55+ division playoffs. Don Dennis and Billy Smith had 2 hits each as 11 different 'Kids hit safely. Dennis got the scoring started with a 2-run single in the 2nd, following a 1-out error and 2 walks. They added 4 more in the 3rd on RBI's by Dave Palmer, Jesse Braverman, and Ed Klopfer. Ken Zimmer had an RBI single in the 4th, cutting the lead to 6-1, but the Whiz scored 5 in the 5th, the big blow being a bases loaded triple by Darrell Duncan. Chris Abrams only allowed 1 run over 5 innings before tiring in the 6th, when the Americans rallied for 4 runs, with Zimmer smacking a 3-run triple. Braverman came on to end the inning, and pitch a scoreless 7th. Ed Draves capped the scoring for the Whiz with a 2-run single in the bottom of the 6th. Congratulations to manager Brad Buchan, and all of the Americans on a fine season. They are a great group of guys. Next up for the WhizKids are the Cardinals.
