The New York Giants met up with Artie Gs Blue Jays on what could only be described as a perfect day for baseball that is, unless you hate sunshine and 70 degree weather. The Giants came out on top 12-2. Pitching and defense.........Pitching and defense!!!
HEADLINE: Pete Geannelis is a pretty good ballplayer. Dr. Pete threw a complete game three hitter (one hit being an infield pop-up that Giants first baseman just stared at because he just had hip surgery - sorry Pete), hit two balls that just missed leaving the park using his RAKE model R243 (shameless plug), scored three runs and drove in two others not a bad days work for a Christmas tree farmer. Pete mixed his pitch speeds really well, changed eye levels and generally kept the Jays hitters off balance.
The Giants Notable Performances: Paul Scutieri 2 hits, 3 RBI Ron Smaka 2 hits, run, 2 RBI Wayne (Wilson) Phillips 3 hits, run, RBI Mike Labanowski 2 hits, 2 runs, RBI (and a nice running catch on a tweener in shallow in left field from the SS position) Jan Friedman 1st game as a New York Giant (welcome aboard) first at bat..line drive single. Jan comes from a family of ballplayers his brothers Barry and Jeff play with Jan on the 35 Rays squad all very good ballplayers.
Blue Jays Notable performances: Mike Surin double, 2 walks, 2 runs Pat Alson (RAKE R007) hard line drive single, RBI Rich Garbarino single, threw 2 (maybe 3 not sure) really nice innings in relief.
The New York Giants take on Dave VanWormers Reds next Saturday at the Polo Grounds Leo Durocher may play second base for the Giants were not sure yet his kids have Little League games! Should be a test for both teams.
