The Albany Cubs went into yesterday's finale with Puerto Rico, not needing to win the game. To be fair Puerto Rico didn't either. The difference, with a 37 man roster, they were able to roll out 3 pitchers that hadn't thrown in the tournament yet, and were quite experienced pitchers. We had to save every experienced pitcher we had on the roster for the upcoming playoffs. Our guys did the best they could, but against those bats, guys that hadn't even pitched more than a couple of times in the past couple of years did a credible job, but gave up 20 runs. Our bats look better, but still had trouble getting the big hits when there was traffic on the bases. We scored 6 runs.
Jack Griffen led the way with a 2 RBI double. Scott Ross had two singles. PJ Martone had a RBI single, and Dave Mitchell added a line drive triple in the gap. Bob Bolt, Dean Little, and Danny Maguire had the other hits for the Cubs.
One night to put the Round Robin behind us and refocus on the playoffs, with a fully rested pitching staff. We start the playoffs with the Suncoast Suns, a team that beat us in game one of the RR 9-1. Hopefully they will take us for grated, and with "big game" Ron Massaroni on the mound, with a mended finger, we can shock the tournament with a 8 seed upsetting the 1 seed, and go from there.
LETS GO ALBANY!!! You have pitchers To win out , that I would even take in the 45s bro, YOU CAN DO THIS! Go to work and get it done!! OUT HIT THOSE GUYS. We are with you in spirit! Lex
