Jeff Friedman pitched 5 innings of 3-hit ball with 6 strikeouts to lead the WhizKids past the Pirates Thursday night at the A diamond. He helped his own cause going 3-4 with a double, triple, stolen base, and 2 runs scored (he might have turned his double into another triple, but yours truly was in front of him on the base paths!). Not to be outdone at the plate, teammate Gene Hallenbeck was 2-3 with a double, triple, 2 runs, and 4 RBI. Mike Kane, Shawn Martin, Reggie Flansburg and John Cortese also had multi-hit games.
Pirates were shorthanded due to multiple injuries, but played hard. Fred Pidgeon had a booming double in the 4th inning that I had the pleasure of chasing to the wall in right-center field. Get healthy, Pirates, and good luck the rest of the way.
