The Twins picked up a hard earned 5-2 victory over The Whiz in Bethlehem last night. The Twins scored all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning as Stefan Koutsakis led off with a single followed by Lee Madsen and John Newman who reached on uncharacteristic ball handling errors by starting pitcher Mike Kane loading the bases with no outs. Koutsakis scored on a fielders choice by Tom King and Rick Saidenberg followed with a long double to right driving in Madsen and King making it Twins 3-0. The Twins went up 4-0 in the third on 3 singles by Madsen, Newman, and Greg Briscoe who knocked in Madsen. Briscoe also anchored solid infield play giving crucial defensive support to pitcher Newman. The Whiz got their first run in the bottom of the third when Martin singled to plate Friedman who reached via a walk. The ever dangerous Whiz picked up another run in the 4th after Cortese singled, stole second, moved to third on a fielders choice and scored on another fielders choice making it 4-2. The Twins added an important insurance run in the top of the 7th as Koutsakis hit a two out double and scored on a clutch Lee Madsen single . John Newman picked up a complete game victory allowing 6 hits, 2 walks, 1 hit batsman, and 0 strikeouts. Mike Kane was the Whiz starter going 5 innings giving up 6 hits, 2 walks, and recorded 4 strikeouts. Friedman came in to relieve Kane and pitched the 6th and 7th allowing 3 hits, 1 run, while striking out 3.

Congrats to manager Jim Edelman and the entire Twins team. It's a very solid group of players. Their pitcher kept us off balance, their defense was steady, and they came through with timely hits. A winning combination!
