PIRATES 8 PEPPERS 7

In another chapter of the wackiest of seasons, the swashbuckling Pirates notched their 1st "W" last evening in a well played game at New Scotland vs. Dave Plew's Peppers.
After losing 5 starters to free agency, 2 COVID opt-outs, and 2 retirements, and 2 surgeries, the long-time depth of the roster took some hits. The re-tooled product may be starting to gel with more competitive play than the Buccos 1-4 start. It helps to have the crazies, like Farrell, 3 weeks from ACL surgery who wants the ball every time out, our version of Randall P. McMurphy and spiritual leaders in Ansel and Pidge, with great role players, the always steady Newcomb, and the mix of new roster additions. Last nite, led by a gutty complete game by Billy Farrell, timely hitting buy new comer Ken Shaw, fire-starter Jim Jazz, lines drives of Rusty Wiliiams, and solid defense, we had a great 6th inning rally, with big contributions at the tail end of the order. We then sweat out an intense top of the 7th, as our 3-run margin shrunk to 1, before stranding the tying run at 3rd, to notch the "W". Down 2 in the bottom of the 6th,
Cos DiBari works out a lead off walk, followed by Jack Brock and Mike Stammel singles! Dana Hansen and Jazzy with rbi fielder choices, before Shaw cleans the bases with a 2-ribby single!

Farrell, 3 weeks removed from ACL surgery goes the distance, scattering 10 hits, with 2 k(s) and only 1 walk, and inducing 2 double plays!

Peppers were playing a little short handed, and led by Dan Durbak's 2-3, 2r and 2B, and Bill C 2-2 1r and 2 rbi. Dave's team battled to the final out, and when he gets his full team back will make some noise.

Pirates get a "yardstick" game to measure progress tonite vs. the Dodgers.

Congrats, Jim! Well deserved! We will call it the streak and keep counting down, as you pile up the wins!
