At a time when baseball players are measured by launch angles, exit velos, spin rates and how long they will be on the DL, it was a pleasure to square up against the old school ball players on the 55++ Pirates. To a man they play to the best of their ability. They support each other. They cheer on their pitchers. They respect the umpire and their opponents. Regardless of the game situation, they enjoy playing and ribbing each other. The Dodgers thoroughly enjoyed an evening of baseball and sharing the field with the Pirates.
So Don, am I to read into it that you kicked their butts and made them scream for their mommies? Kidding aside, we had the same "feel good" experience with the Jim Dalton gang in our game last week. Hell, we're all over-the-hill. The Pirates are just a little further down the hill.
While passing out pleasantries, kudos to Dave Plew and his Peppers, who were looking for revenge after their loss Tuesday to the Pirates. They gave the Damn Yankees all they could handle last night at Bethlehem. We trailed 5-4 after four innings before rallying for a 9-5 win. Those boys can square up the ball. And you'd think they were built for Yankee Stadium with all the lefthanded batters in their lineup.

I didn't hear anyone screaming for the mommies. I do think I heard one of the Pirates ordering beer to be delivered to New Scotland!
We had one big inning and added some insurance runs. One example of Jimmy Dalton's class act. The Dodgers only had nine players. One of our players injured his arm on a check swing. We took an out for that at-bat. JD told us not to take an out the next two times that position came up in the order. Much appreciated.
