55 Twins-Dodgers Back and Forth, Back and Forth

Shuttleworth Park at night in Amsterdam was a very friendly place for the bats of both the Twins and Dodgers last night. Stefan Koutsakis led off the game for the Twins with a long double only to be picked off second before the next pitch was thrown by Dodgers starting pitcher Mark Dinicola. Rick Saidenberg followed with a double off the right field screen and scored on a Lee Madsen triple. 1-0 Twins. The Dodgers came out swinging in the bottom of the first scoring 4 runs on 5 singles. Top of the third Twins scored 2 runs on 4 singles of their own making it 4-3 Dodgers. Back come the Dodgers with 1 more run in the bottom of the third on 2 more singles, 5-3 Dodgers. Top of the 5th, 2 singles and a double by Tom King coupled with a walk and 2 Dodger errors produced 3 runs for the Twins putting them back up 6-5. Bottom of the 5th, 3 Dodgers singles and 2 Twins errors pushed 2 more runs into the home teams column, 7-6 Dodgers. Top of the 6th, Koutsakis gets to first on a lead off error, steals second, moves to third on a fielders choice and scores on another fielders choice. Game tied 7-7. Bottom of the 6th, Twins starter John Newman retires the 10-1-2 Dodgers batters on infield grounders. Top of the 7th, Terry McCarthy reaches first on a 2 out fielders choice, steals second and scores on a clutch single by Wayne Nicholsen, the Dorian Gray of the Twins producing an 8-7 lead. Bottom of the 7th, Colletta flies out to fairly deep left, Jim Bradley follows with a homicidal line drive to Koutsakis at short, and Newman gets Loffrado out with a strikeout to end the game. The Twins managed 13 hits while the Dodgers had 11. Leading the Twins were Rick Saidenberg with 3 hits and Madsen and McCarthy with 2 hits each. At least one hit came from each of the 9 Twins batting positions. The Dodgers were led by Dinicola, Trinchillo, Loffrado, and Ball, each with 2 hits. Both pitchers threw complete games with Dinicola for the Dodgers allowing 8 runs (6 earned) on 13 hits, 7 strikeouts, and 1 walk. Twins pitcher John Newman allowed 7 runs (5 earned), 11 hits, 5 strikeouts, no walks, and 2 hit batsman. Newman settled down after a shaky first allowing just 6 hits and 1 earned run over the final 6 innings and retired the final 8 Dodgers batters in order.

Great recap Jim, it's like you recorded the game and wrote your summary while watching the replay. Last night was a fun night playing at this old ball park under lights (when they finally came on). Dodgers are a very good team who came out smoking hot with the bats. It was a game of offense, two good pitchers who had a difficult time with the opposition's hitters. Looking forward to our next game with the Dodgers, should be another wild and exciting game.

Appreciated Stefan. Its much easier when the scorebook is being tended to by injured Twin, the eventual ace in the hole, Joe Parker. He knows what to do on the field and off. Remember that name. Everyday he gets a little closer .
