The Damn Yankees can do no more than just tip their caps to Mike Kane and the Whiz Kids for handing us our first loss of the season tonight by a score of 6-3 In six innings before darkness prevailed.
The Whiz struck for three in the first off starter John Weber and the Yankees answered back with three in the bottom half to tie the score at 3-3. Pete Geannelis had a big two-out 2-run single and Joe Hervieux tied it with a single.
The Whiz rallied for three in the fifth off reliever Darrell Duncan and Kane escaped a Yankees rally in the bottom of the 6th (two on nobody out) with the sun setting to secure the Whiz win.
Big thanks to John Kalinski for subbing for umpire that never showed. Congrats to Jim Porter and Whiz for a hard-fought win in a game we are just grateful to be playing in these crazy times.

A great game between two good teams with a playoff-like atmosphere.
The WhizKids scored their 3 runs in the 1st on a hit batter, an error, and a run scoring single by Shawn Martin. Reggie Flansburg grounded out to second, driving in the second run, and Bob Holmes hit a two out single to give the Whiz their short lived 3-run lead. As Tim stated, the Yankees came right back with 3 runs of their own to tie the score.
It would stay that way for the next 3 innings, as Kane and Webber matched zeroes, and both defenses made some key plays.
In the 5th, Martin reached on a 1-out error, followed by 1-out singles off the bats of Flansburg and Holmes. Randy Mudge walked to force in a run, John Cortese drove in a run with a single, and Greg Mangione had a run scoring ground out to end the scoring.
After the Yankees had a walk and a single to start the 6th, Kane buckled down by getting a strikeout, a forceout, and another K to end the game.
Congrats to Tim Brown and the rest of the Yankees on a fine season.
