The Cubs won their final game of the 2020 regular season, 12-2 over the Peppers, to improve their record to 12-1-1.
The Cubs pounded out 15 hits, in 6 innings, while plating 12 runs. Meanwhile 3 Cubs pitchers scattered 7 hits, while giving up just 2 unearned runs. Ralph Caputo started and pitched the first two innings; Mike Girard came on for the middle two innings, and Alex Marin made his Cubs' pitching debut, throwing the final two innings. Dave Mitchell led the offense with 2 doubles and a single. Dave Schillinger, Mike Girard, and Ron Massaroni added two hits each. Nine of the ten Cubs in the batting order, recorded at least one hit. It was a good tune up for the pending playoff tournament.
Ted Witting led the way for the Peppers with a 2 for 2 performance, while Charlie Freer added a single, two stolen bases, and scored the game's first run. Bill Chichester, Dan Durback, Frank Kerbein, and Dave Plew had the other hits for the Peppers.
We played the Peppers in game one of this season and the 16th game of this season, and they improved a ton from the first game to the last. This team could pose an upset threat, in the upcoming playoffs. Good luck to Dave and his crew!
