With a heavy heart . . .

One of our own has suffered an unimaginable loss!

Jim Becker and family has had their son, Derek (a fantastic baseball player with a very bright future) taken from them way too soon!

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. Police in West Palm Beach are investigating the shooting death of a 21-year-old college baseball player.

The body of Derek Becker was found Sunday in an apartment near the Keiser University campus on Community Drive in West Palm Beach.

Police are releasing very few details about the case.

This happened just after midnight on 12/20/20.

Prayers to Jim and his family at this time of incredible grief!
God Bless and Godspeed Derek!

We are all a family and we all grieve for our friend and his family!

Jim played for years on the 35 Orioles, and most recently on the 45 Mets. Those of you that know him, know what a great guy he is, and how proud he was of his son, Derek.

Here is a link to a GoFund Me page, set up to help cover funeral expenses: www.gofundme.com/f/gwhea8-the-becker-family

We're all praying for you and your family, Jimmy.

Devastating news. Unbelievable tragedy. Beck is one of the fiercest competitors I've ever seen, and his son Derek was right in the same mold. I had the opportunity to umpire and referee Derek in baseball and basketball. The kid was always a class act, just like his Dad, and always respectful of the game. He always went out of his way to say hello, and point to his Dad in the stands so I knew Beck was there. Words cannot express the deep sympathies I have for the Beckers (Derek's brother Tyler is a good player as well). May he RIP and God Bless Jimmy and his family.
