Reaching Out for Information

Hello All,

I am Mike Kocienski and I play in the 45s/55s. This season will be my 9th season (I think).

The reason I am posting I am hoping that somebody might have or knows someone who may be willing to do a month to month rental.

My wife and I are in a situation at our home with a very bad smell of sewage gas and we have been troubleshooting this for months. We have had three plumbers here as well as the town and nobody can seem to figure out what the problem is.

With that said they did say there is a small crack in the main but it is under the concrete and it probably isn't the issue. It is not only us that is smelling this our neighbors are smelling this as well. One has a small smell in their house and the other can only smell it outside. It is getting so bad at times that we feel that we need to get out just until it is fixed. Maybe a couple of months. Because there is no definitive solution the insurance company can't do anything for us.

We have two small dogs (both under 20 pounds) and an indoor cat.

If anyone knows of anyplace it would be appreciated if you could reach out to us. Or if you have had a similar situation what you did to resolve. (Or a plumber that may be able to give us some insight)

Things to know:
1. The smell isn't constant. We have at times gone days without smelling anything.
2. The main to the street and the roof ventilation pipes have both been snaked out.
3. The tub has been snaked out.
4. The main to the street has been videoed.
5. There is no definitive location where the smell is coming from.
6. Drain-O has been used to flush all the lines.

I know this is a lot but I am hoping for a couple of things. Someone who may have a solution and a possible temporary location for us to stay until the issue can be resolved.

Thanks for reading.

Mike - sorry to hear about your troubles.

I know that Adams Station Apartments in Delmar will do month to month rentals and accepts pets. (518) 439-8857

As far as the issue goes it might be worth talking to a structural/building inspector - I'm talking about the ones that do inspections before you purchase a house. They have run across all sorts of issues in their travels. Tom Bergami is one that I know of and he is a good guy and I'm sure would be willing to discuss your issue and determine if he could help or could suggest someone else. Call him at 518 560-1399 and tell him I suggested you call.

Hey John,

Your guy got a hold of me last evening and he gave me a couple of ideas. The main thing was to check and see if there are any S-traps and change them to P-traps. I guess the S-traps can drain the water dry out of the trap and leave it open for the gas to come in.

If that doesn't work he said it could be mold too but that is rare. If this doesn't work I am going to schedule an appointment with him to do a full inspection.

We are going to take care of this over the next week and hopefully this will be the solution and not force us to move temporarily.

Thanks for the info.

Now lets play some ball. GO DODGERS!!!
