The Cubs and Angels got together at New Scotland for what is always a very friendly game, you could even say a FAMILY AFFAIR. Of the 22 players at the field last night, 19 had previously, at one time or another, played for the Cubs franchise (30+, 45+, and/or 55+). The game was friendly, but competitive throughout, with tons of smiles, amicable ribbing, and just a whole lot of fun!
The Cubs came out on top 12-6, by pounding out 19 hits. The Cubs attack was led by Paul Miles and Dave Mitchell, who were both 4 for 4. Ron Lochner was 3 for 4, with 4 RBI's. Andy Hoyle and Mike Girard added two hits each. The Cubs were strong in the field and on the mound, as well. Girard went 4-1/3 innings, giving up just 2 unearned runs, scattering 5 hits and one walk, while striking out 3. Kevin Moon came out of retirement to throw an inning and two thirds. Kevin got out of his first inning without giving up a run (striking out 1), but ran into control issues in his second inning of work, surrendering 4 runs on 6 walks and a RBI single by TJ Scorsone (his 3rd hit of the day). Scott Ross came in for mop up duty in the 7th and retired the side in order, striking out one. Jim Bonaparte made a big play at second base on a bad throw from third, and Paul Miles retrieved the only Angels extra base it in record time to keep at least one run from scoring.
The Angels were led by TJ Scorsone's 3 hits, 1 RBI, and 1 run scored. Jeff Madden recorded the Angel's only extra base hit in the game, and Jim McQuade, Craig Turnbull, and Tom Maney were responsible for the other 3 hits.
The cooler session lasted well into the evening, as it always does. Can't wait until the next time!
