Last night at New Scotland, Kevin Moon returned from a long absence from competitive baseball. He called me this winter looking for a spot to ease back into the game he had been away from since receiving a Heart Transplant! Not a knee replacement! Not a hip replacement! An actual heart replacement!
The courage and drive were always big in this guy, but WOW! Putting his name on the line up card was a huge thrill for me, but seeing him hit a RBI single in his first at bat and strike out the first batter he faced, when returning to the mound in the 5th inning was spell binding. Both should be considered miracles! I can't wait to see where he ends up in his return to the game, as he was once one of this league's most feared pitchers. It will be a slow progression, for sure, but I love where he is starting from.
Amazing to see and be part of Kevin's first game back to the CDMSBL! He looked great and had the same presence on the mound that we remember. What a remarkable comeback from such a serious procedure! Welcome back Kevin!
