Cubs prevail over Americans.

The Cubs jumped out to an early lead and coasted to a 17-6 victory over the Americans on Thursday night, at the A-Diamond.

The Cubs scored 3 in the first; 3 in the second; and 8 in the 3rd, for a 14-0 lead. Mike Girard kept the Americans off the scoreboard
for those first three innings, giving up just 2 singles and no walks, while striking out 1.

The 4th and 5th innings belonged to the Americans, as they outscored the Cubs 6-0 in that span, using 4 walks and 4 hits in those two innings.
Mike Carmoin led the way for the Americans during this rally, with a single and a 2-RBI double. Mike was 3 for 4 on the day.

The Cubs regained the momentum in the 6th, plating 3 runs in the frame to push the lead up to 17-6. Scott Ross and Jim Bonaparte made that lead
stand shutting down the Americans the rest of the way.

Ron McCarthy was red hot as he went 4 for 5, with 3 booming doubles. He scored 4 runs and drove in 3. Ron Lochner was right with him as he also went 4 for 5,
with one double, 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's. Paul Miles, Jerry Rosen, and Mike Girard added two hits each, in a 16-hit attack.

As always it was a great time playing the Americans, led by their classy manager, Mike Labarge. A great group of guys. We look forward to seeing them again in the second half.

Next up for the Cubs is a rematch of last year's championship series with the Yankees, next Wednesday night, at New Scotland.
It ought to be a good one!
