There will be a great game between the 4-1 Dodgers and the 5-0 Cubs tonight at the A-Diamond in Schenectady's Central Park, but that will not be the main attraction.
We have been informed by Alex Marin that he will be visiting us at the A-Diamond for the game tonight. We are thrilled because he was very close to losing his life in a horrible accident on the Northway just a couple of months ago. His injuries included fractured vertebrae and a gruesome displaced fracture of his lower leg. Doctors had doubts that he would be able to walk again, but Alex is not only determined to prove them wrong, but one of his strongest motivations is to return to play this wonderful, beautiful game again. It would be outstanding to see some of his old teammates and friends show up at the field tonight to show him how we feel about him, and that we all support him in his efforts to rehab so that he can rejoin us on a "field of dreams" somewhere soon, maybe even as soon as next season.
It was an emotional night for the Cubs. Seeing Alex walk in to the field on crutches honestly brought tears to my eyes. He is working hard at rehab and is aiming at a 2022 return to the diamond. His doctors are not 100% on board with that yet, but I'm not betting against him.
His being there was a great inspiration to the whole team.
