Cubs top Angels in Family Affair.

The Cubs and Angels each got a win Wednesday night at the C-Diamond in Schenectady.
The Cubs came out on top in the game 11-6, and the Angels won the after game cooler session, in a close one.

The Angels made the Cubs work for the win in the game leading 3-1 after 1 inning; and tied 4-4 through 4 complete innings.
The Cubs kept scoring, adding 7 runs in the last 3 innings, but shut down the Angels over the final 3 frames allowing just 2 Angel runs in the 5th.
Ron Massaroni coming on in relief of starter Scott Ross, in the third, pitched the last 5 innings giving up just one earned run, scattering 5 hits, while
walking 1, hitting one batter, and striking out 4. Ron also led the Cubs offense with 3 hits. Ron McCarthy added three hits of his own, while Paul Miles,
Mike Girard and Dave Mitchell added two hits each. Jerry Rosen had the loudest hit of the night, with a booming double to very deep left center.
It would have been well out of most parks that we play in.

Jim McQuade led the offense for the Angels, as he filled up the score sheet with 3 hits, 2 RBI's, 1 run scored and a stolen base.
Jeff Madden, John Reel, Jim Wing, Don Wixon, Phil Gadomski, and Craig Turnbull had the other hits for the Halo's.

The key moment came in the bottom came in the bottom of the 6th inning, with the Cubs up 10-6. The Angels loaded the bases with two outs
and had leadoff hitter Mal Hinman at the plate. Mal worked Massaroni to a full count, so the runners were off and running with the payoff pitch.
Hinman scorched a hot grounder down the third base line that looked like it would be a 3-run double, but the Cubs third baseman snared the
hot potato and stepped on third just ahead of the runner to end the rally, with the Cubs still up 4.

The Cubs added an insurance run in the top of the 7th, and and Massaroni set down the Angels 2-3-4 hitters in order in the bottom of the 7th.
The hard fought win leaves the Cubs atop the standings at 9-0-1, with a game Thursday night at the A-Diamond vs the Pirates.

The after game cooler session was the highlight of the night, as great friends (baseball brothers) shared a couple of cold ones along with stories and laughter,
that went on well into the darkness. Tom Maney and Mash Gadomski were the MVP's for the Angels as they won the the cooler session in a close one.

Looking forward to doing it again soon. Hopefully in the playoffs.

So great to see so many good friends
last night. As usual the game was great and the cooler
session was epic.
Got to visit with Mike Reutter and his dad,
and the banter between Alex and Kevin was precious.
Thank you Angels and Cubs for such a great night.
