55 Twins End Regular League Play With Whiz

Another beautiful, hot, fragrant evening at A Diamond . The Twins and Whiz squared off at 5:15 with the Twins striking first in the top of the second as Joe Parker scored on a Greg Briscoe single. The Whiz evened it at 1-1 in the bottom of the third as Holmes walked and scored on a long double to the left field fence by Bob Bolt. Top of the 5th the Twins took a 2-1 lead as Parker was driven home by a 2 out Dom Archidiacono opposite field single to right. Hard luck for Twins starter John Newman in the bottom of the fifth with 2 outs, the lack of clear communication between the Twins SS and centerfielder resulted in a short pop up to center dropping for a single. Inning should have been over with little to no damage done. The Whiz took full advantage and went on to score 7 runs after that on a couple of walks , a hit batter, a wild pitch, and 4 more hits, no pun intended. This is very out of character for both Twins defensive players and Ill write it off as the guys being spaced out from the waves of cannabis smoke drifting across the field. They came back to the dugout mumbling something about having the munchies. Bob Bolt picked up a complete game victory allowing 7 hits, 2 runs, striking out 1, and issuing no walks. John Newman was the hard luck loser pitching 4 2/3 innings, giving up 6 hits, 3 earned runs, hitting 2 batters, striking out 1 while walking 2. Leading hitters for the Whiz were Holmes, Jan Friedman, and Burns with 2 hits each. The Twins managed 7 hits with Joe Parker going 3-3 and Jeff Whitehead 2-3 including a triple. This game ends the Twins regular season . After going just 3-7 over the first 10 games, we were able to close with a 5-1 finish to wind up 8-8. Ok. We can live with that. Now comes a 2 week wait for the playoffs to begin.
