It took 2 meetings over 4 days but the 55 Twins and Dodgers ended their elimination game in epic fashion. Starting the game last Thursday at Watervliet, the Dodgers took a 3-2 lead into the 7th only to see the Twins tie it 3 all in the top of the inning. John Newman, who relieved starter Wayne Nicholsen, set down the Dodgers 1-2-3 batters in order in the bottom of the 7th and the umpires suspended the game because of darkness. Fast forward to Monday, September 13. The game was scheduled to be resumed on B Diamond but that field was determined to be unplayable because of rain during the night. Fortunately A Diamond was secured by mid afternoon and the game continued in the top of the 8th at 5:55 pm. Nicholsen returns to the mound for the Twins. No runs in the 8th. No runs in the 9th. Twins scratched out 2 runs in the top of the 10th. Dodgers come back with 1 in the bottom of the inning, but left the tying run at 3rd when the final out was recorded on a sharp 4-3 grounder. Twins come away with a hard earned 5-4 victory against a formidable Dodger team. The Twins were eliminated by the Dodgers in 2019 and 2020 in the first round. The third time was a charm for the Twins.
