Arachnids Force Pirates to Walk The Plank, 5-1

Oct. 6 (Schenectady NY) - The Arachnids snared the needed win in their web, to advance to the Championship vs. the Yankees, with 5-1 victory over the Pirates at the A-Diamond on Tuesday evening.
The Spiders used the strong, whirling and twirling delivery of Wayne Nicholson to quiet the Buccos recent hot hitting; and the bats of Mike Aiello (2-3, 2 r), Jim Wing (3-3, 2r and sb), who seemed to bat 1.000 vs. the Bucs this year, and Darrell Duncan (2-3, 3 rbi, sb) to force the Pirates to walk the plank to elimination!

Nicholson was outstanding, going 6 and allowing just 3 hits. Bill Farrell, so solid in the Pirates playoff run, was the hard luck thrower, going the distance again (5 complete games in the playoffs), working our of jam after jam, surrendering 10 hits and again, no walks. Pirates could not get the big hit, and Arachnids infield was solid all night, making play after play, and turning two twin killings. The Buccos were led by Paul Peters, 1-2, with 2 sb (and two sparklers on "D"), Rick Knipper who stepped up and donned the "tools of ignorance" in an emergency, and Jim Denney and Jimmie Dalton, who continued their post season success with a knock apiece. Jim Ansel's rbi ground out drove home Knipper with the Pirates only run.

Ed. Note - The inaugural season of 62s Baseball was to a man on the Pirates, some of the most fun baseball we have experienced in our time playing this great game! Kudos to John Reel for his vision and guidance, and the other 5 Managers (Plew, Hawkins, LaBarge,VanGelder and Wixon) for making this work so smoothly despite rainouts and injuries. Good luck to both the Yankees and Arachnids in the Championship!
