CHALK ONE UP FOR THE OLD GUYS!!

Scotia NY - Tues. 10/12 -A wild night of baseball at Scotia Babe Ruth Field at Bob Moore Stadium, as the Pirates combined 55/62s spotting their opponents 30-40 years, outlasted the 18+ Adirondack Eagles. Pirates fought back from 2, 4, and 8 run deficits to take the lead in the top half of the 6th, on a game shortened due to curfew to hang on for the UGLIEST of wins, 16-15!! To say it wasn't pretty would be an understatement! The lights haunted us on several early plays, a sextet of bad hops, and just a plethora of errors (on both sides) made for an entertaining, back and forth affair. Pirates started to solve the Eagles D-1 hurler Austin VanEtten after a couple of turns, and broke through after falling behind to cut the lead to 6-4. An all-UGLY inning resulted in Eagles extending to 12-4. Pirates had an improbable rally in the 5th, plating 8 to knot things at 12. Every Bucco figured in the scoring with hits from Jim Jaziewicz, Paul Peters, Jim Denney, and Rick Saidenberg. Saudinberg was a huge bat all night with 3 hits. Jim Kidd, Howard Becker, Wayne Newcomb, Rick Knipper and Joe Parker all reached base multiple times and figured in the 16 run attack. Jimmie Dalton went the route with an ugly line that included 10 unearned runs, but no walks and season high 7 punch-outs, with assorted offerings of pus. After falling behind 14-12, Pirates found one last rally in their cross bones and skulls to plate 4 in the top of the 6th. Bottom of the 6th open with a great running catch by Saidenberg, to take away a sure 2-bagger, was followed by a Jonathan Witzke knock, who came around to score. With 2-outs and tying run at 1st, a fly ball to shallow left center looked like certain trouble, and runner going with 2-outs sure to score until that guy Saidenberg again raced out of left catching the sinking liner hip high to save the Buccos bacon! To a man, the Pirates battled, and the Eagles never quit. The Eagles also showed a lot of class throughout the game, knowing the could easily take advantage of their younger wheels, but opted not to turn the game into a track meet on the bases. Fun match up between the sages and the up & comers! Round Two - Sunday!

May be looking to add players for the next two games of the series......jamesbdalton@yahoo.com .... if interested.
