Former Red Sox second-baseman and long-time broadcaster Jerry Remy succumbed to lung cancer last week at the age of sixty-eight. It was his seventh bout with the disease, which first appeared in 2008. Jerry faced a lot of adversity in his life, and you had to admire his unimaginable toughness.
I'm only an occasional Red Sox fan, though this summer I frequently found myself checking in on the games "RemDawg" was doing alongside Dennis Eckersley and Dave O'Brien. I just couldn't believe that after all that he had been through, he still had the juice to be a top-notch color man. He was so entertaining to listen to, with that unmistakable gravelly voice and heavy eastern-Mass. accent. I will miss him.
And what a funny guy he was! Check out this video.
