The Dodgers and the Twins enjoyed a well-played game of baseball on a much improved B Diamond in Schenectady.
With both teams playing solid defense, the game was tied at two going into the bottom of the 6th inning. Dodgers rookie Steve Jiampeti drew a lead-off walk. Harvey Staulters singled to put runners on 1st and 2B. Baseball 101 was in session as everyone in Central Park knew a bunt was coming. Marc Trinchillo laid down a perfect sac bunt that just crawled past the dirt in front of home plate. Ray Coletta,, Pat Alston and Jim Bradley then did what the #3, 4 and 5 batters are supposed to do - drive in runs. The Dodgers took a 5 - 2 lead into the 7th.
John Weber finished his Dodgers debut pitching a 1 - 2 - 3 inning to wrap up a complete game victory. The modern-day hippy navigated a very good hitting Twins line-up without issuing a walk. He was backed by a solid defense with strong nights at SS by Harvey Staulters and outfielders Coletta and Dennis Lane running down some long fly balls hit into a swirling wind.
The Dodgers take game one 5 - 2 of a three game regular season series.
