Family get together at the A-Diamond!

Last night at the A-Diamond the schedule read 55+ Cubs at the Angels at 5:30 pm.
That always is family night. These two teams are made up of friends (baseball brothers)
who have at one time or another been teammates, most of them for many years.

To add to that wonderful mixture of players, we had a visit from PJ Martone (in from his relatively new home in Phoenix).
We also were celebrating a return to the field of Dave Mitchell after missing the first two games with a serious illness.
With all of this going on, we all knew that the after game cooler session would likely last longer than the game.
It was certainly not a disappointment in that regard. We sat around a big circle, sharing stories and catching up
with our baseball family. It was OUTSTANDING. I didn't want to ever leave.

As for the game: The Cubs won 12-1.

The Cubs were led by Ron Massaroni's solid pitching performance.
Ron gave up 1 earned run in the first, and then shut the Angels out the rest of the way.
Ron only gave up 4 singles and 2 walks, while striking out 3.
The Cubs offense was led by PJ Martone, who tripled, doubled, and hit a long sacrifice fly, for a total of 3 RBI's.
David Mitchell had two hits and scored 2 runs in his first 3 at bats of the season, and Mike Girard added a
triple and single and 2 RBI's.

The Angels also got solid pitching from the trio of Jon Martin, TJ Scorsone, and Ralph Caputo; but those 3 had to pitch around
6 Angels errors. TJ Scorsone, Jim McQuade, John Reel, and Jon Martin had the 4 hits for the Angels. The run scored by Scorsone
and driven in by Martin, in the first inning, was the only earned run against the Cubs in their first 3 games.

With the new weighted schedule, this will be the only meeting between these two teams (very sad).
Good luck to the Angels the rest of the way!
We love you guys!
