Wrote my last note on the fly and I left out some names worth mentioning.
My message was a reply to Don Ball's entertaining tale of his Dodgers v. the Damn Yankees game, where Don neatly included material from all over the diamond to the parking lot, inserting three musical references, to make his story a rich one.
Then, I said I thought at least three others often did much the same: Mike Girard, Jim Dalton and Jim Edelman. I wanted to celebrate and thank them for their stories, and to suggest others on all the teams try post-game write-ups.
Because I was in a hurry, I left out some good tall-tale spinners. This is hardly an exhaustive list but among other game-story makers I've enjoyed reading over the years, these names come to mind: Jim Preller, Jim Konstantakis, Tim Brown, Chris Dunn, Jim Porter, John Reel, Jim McQuade, Ralph Caputo, Rob Currier, Jerry Hawkins, Jesse Braverman, Frank Montagano, Tom Maney, Ted Poleto, Ray Demers, Lex Herlett and Bob Noto (with clear, succinct board reports). And Harold Jenkins (whose notes about keeping the website and schedule going are short but crucial, with implications for stories to come.) And, RIP, Jim Jordan.
Again, I know this is not the full line-up card, and I apologize for, leaving guys some guys out. (Blame geezer memory.)
It's also a way to say, to these fellows and others, thanks for the tales! Summer and our games are better for them.
And a hope others give game-story making a shot.
-Mike
