Again at B Diamond last night the home team Twins struck first scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning on a double by Jeff Whitehead, Rick Saidenberg getting hit by a pitch , and a clutch single by Wayne Nicholsen off Americans starter Dan Durback. The Americans hit back with a run in the third and two more in the fourth to take a 3 to 2 lead. Durback held the Twins in check over the second third and fourth innings to keep the game tight. The Twins finally got their offense in gear scoring six runs in the fifth and six more in the sixth inning. Final score was 14 to 5 in favor of the Twins. Stephen Koutsakis picked up a complete game victory surrendering eight hits, striking out four, and walking three. Durback was solid on the mound for the Americans into the fifth giving up seven hits and striking out two but ran out of steam in that fifth inning. The Twins finished with 12 hits while the Americans had eight. Leading hitters for the Twins were Charlie Freer and Jeff Whitehead with three hits each. Whitehead had two doubles and another extra base hit stolen from him on a fantastic catch by the Americans centerfielder. For the Americans Muller went 3 for 3 including a double and Petrone was 2 for 2.
