On the last evening of June, and a beautiful one at that, the full strength and formidable Yankees showed why they are the first place team in the 62s. The short handed Arachnids, playing with 2 borrowed players and 4 starters missing, were determined to create some positives in this game. Thank you to Pete Zamory and Dave Plew for playing for the Arachnids . Among the positives for the Arachnids include Ralph Caputo getting his first start on the mound in a couple of years after suffering a shoulder injury. Caputo pitched 5 innings, struck out 5, and overall looked fine. Don Wixon and Tom King pitched the 6th and 7th respectively for the Spidermen. Home team pitchers gifted 9 walks to the visitors. Yankees pitchers held the Arachnids to 5 hits with Jim Edelman going two for two including a double. Craig Miller picked up the win going 5 innings. John Weber threw the 6th , and Pete Geannelis put the lid on it pitching the 7th for the visitors. Leading hitters for the Yankees were Bob Holmes-3 singles and Tony Nardacci 2 hits including a long triple to the right center fence. Kevin Carpenter hit a bases loaded inside the park homer . BOOM ! The Yankees showed off some nifty fielding pulling off 5 double plays. Yankees 16-1. Thank you Stefan Koutsakis for singling and finding a way to score in the bottom of the 7th for the Arachnids.
