55 Pirates-Twins Heat-Hits-Runs-Sweat

Weve been looking forward to this heat all year and now its here. Baseball weather. We are the luckiest guys I know. Were playing the game. Trying.

Ill shorten this report a bit compared to my last entry.

Rick Knipper on the mound to start the game for the Pirates against Twins starter Jeff Whitehead who thought hed like to try pitching with a nasty groin injury suffered last game. Poor guy cant run yet. Anyway it was 6 to 6 after two innings. Whitehead adjusted his delivery, found his groove after the second, allowing no hits and no runs facing just 2 more batters than the minimum the rest of the way. The Twins who were short on numbers and gimpy through the lineup managed to bang out 23 hits and score a lot of runs to win going away. The Pirates had a great turnout with 17 players showing up for this game.

Leading the way offensively for the Twins were Charlie Freer and Wayne Nicholsen (double) with 4 hits each, Terry McCarthy (triple) borrowed Pete Zamory, and Jim Edelman 3 hits each, with Tom King and Rick Saidenberg 2 hits each.

For the Pirates , Paul Peters had 2 hits and Dominic Carnibucchi stroked a beauty of a double.
