Massaroni spins a gem!

Friday night at New Scotland there were lots of stories.
Randy Craft played his second game (during his visit from Florida).
Randy was responsible for the first two outs of the game, with two solid plays at shortstop, but didn't see another chance for the rest of the night.
He also had a solid single in his three plate appearances.
Ron Lochner returned to the line-up, playing his first game since May 3rd.
Ron picked up a solid single in his second of three at bats.
Both great stories.

However, Ron Massaroni stole the spotlight!
He allowed just 3 batters to reach base, in a complete game shutout of the Giants.
He hit Steve Lounello with a pitch to lead off the 4th inning, after retiring the first nine batters in order.
One out later, Danny Maguire drilled a double to left field to put runners at second and third, with just one out.
Ron took a deep breath, reached back and struck out the Giants number 3 hitter, and got their cleanup guy on a soft pop out to second,
to extinguish the fire. He then proceeded to retire 9 of the next 10 hitters to finish the game (Mike Clary slammed a two out double in the 7th).
Mr. Massaroni ended up with a complete game two hit shutout, hitting one batter and striking out 8! Five of his seven innings went 1-2-3.
Only 5 batted balls reached the outfield grass all night. That is the best pitched game I have seen in a long time!

The Cubs put up 3 runs in the first inning on singles by Paul Miles, Chris Mason (RBI), Mike Girard, Andy Hoyle (RBI), and a RBI double by Jerry Rosen.
They matched that output in the 3rd inning on singles by Girard, Ron Lochner, Dave Mitchell (RBI), and RBI fielder's choices by Rosen and Jim Bonaparte.
The final run of the night was pushed across the plate on a Hoyle RBI single in the 5th.

The Cubs moved into sole possession of second place at 8-3. Next up is the final regular season meeting with the Damn Yankees on Wednesday night.
This should be a great game. Can't wait.
