To say Darrell Duncan was on top of his game against the previously undefeated Yankees last night would be an understatement. Duncan led the Arachnids to an 8-4 win over the first place Yankees who entered the game with an unblemished 12-0 record. Darrell pitched all 7 innings allowing just 2 earned runs, 8 hits, striking out 10 (7 called), 2 walks, and 1 hit batter. Peter Genellis took the loss also pitching all 7 innings and allowed 10 hits, had 3 Ks, surrendered 7 walks, and hit 1 batter.
Leading the Spiders offense were wayne Nicholsen, Ralph Caputo, and John Reel with 2 singles each. Duncan helped his own cause with a big double in the top of the seventh knocking in two runs. Stefan Koutsakis scored 3 runs reaching on 2 walks and a single. The Yankees were led by Tony Nardacci who had two singles and Kevin Carpenter who had a double.
The teams exchanged leads several times early in the game with the Yankees holding a 4-2 advantage going into the seventh. Thats when the Arachnids really came alive mixing together three hits, a sac bunt, 2 walks , while benefitting from 2 Yankee infield errors to take an 8-4 lead which held up.
The Yankees committed 4 errors while the visitors had 3.
Yankees are now 12-1while the Spidermen climb to 7-7 after having been 2-7 just a month ago.
