The Cubs and Twins got together for their final regular season game at New Scotland on Friday night.
Chris Mason was the story in this one. He threw 5 innings of 1 hit ball, walking 1 and hitting one batter, while striking out 7. If that wasn't enough, he had a RBI single at the plate, and threw a runner out at home (from left field) to end the game. It was a complete performance. It was a crying shame that I had to tell him that the Board had ruled him ineligible for the playoffs, even though he had played in the required 8 games. The board ruled that his signing the required paperwork and being placed on the roster on July 12th (11 days after the cutoff of July 1st), made him not eligible to participate in the upcoming playoffs.
Jerry Rosen was 3-4 to lead the Cubs offense. Mike Girard, Ron Lochner, and Ron Massaroni added two hits each. Tom King was the only Twin to manage a hit off of Mason, and Joe Parker doubled in the 7th inning to plate the only two runs that the Twins would put on the board.
Big Thanks to Don Ball for subbing for the Cubs so that the game could be played.
