To play the game on pristine A Diamond last night, when, between the smoke from Canada and thunderstorms in the area, was a gift. After losing to the Twins back in May, the rising Americans took the second game 9-6 last night. Both teams had 13 hits. The deciding factor was a bases loaded double by new Americans acquisition Erik Samarija in the bottom of the 3rd and a triple by Sassone in the 5th. No extra base hits for the Twins. The Americans outfield was helped by playing deep last night. Scione and Koster had 2 hits each for the Americans. Twins Lee Madsen was 3-3 while Rick Saidenberg and Terry McCarthy collected 2 hits each.
It has been said that theres no crying in baseball. Perhaps. Like most teams, the injury factor, and Im sad to say, the sickness factor plays a big role sooner or later. On our Twins team we have our spark plug Stefan Koutsakis effectively out for the season with a rotator cuff tear. Rodney Smith out for a month now with a hamstring pull. 2 other key players dealing with much more serious health news. Every oneof those guys love, love, love to play the game. Although the rest of us know we are more than a little fortunate to be on the field, its heart wrenching to see what others are trying to deal with. The final score of the games are of little consequence. Maybe there is no crying in baseball, but I can tell you that sometimes theres some pretty hard swallowing.
