The GMs' dilemma. It's 4:00 o'clock. You're sitting at a nice field under sunny skies and you are looking at the forecast on your smart phone. Clear skies up until game time. Then, a tiny, little pop-up, yellow-ish, maybe orange-ish ....OK reddish cloud over Watervliet. But only for 10 or 15 minutes. And, only a 56% chance of that "shower" even happening. That means a 44% chance of playing a dry baseball game.
Well, this GM digested that data and said play ball! Dennis Lane prepped the field. The Twins showed up. The Dodgers showed up. The umpires showed up. So did one ominous looking cloud!
The home team Dodgers took the field and retired 3 out of 4 Twins batters in the first. Four hits in the bottom of the inning plated three Dodger runs. Apparently, Mother Nature had money on the Twins.
In the top of the second, the skies opened. It freaking poured. And it kept on pouring all the way to the Black Bear Saloon. All the way back to my car. All the way home 56% chance of rain? Good thing it wasn't 57%!
Final score - Mother Nature 866,975,231,888 Dodgers 3 Twins 0. We'll play again when Mother Nature says so.
