Giants v Whiz


The Giants and the Whiz squared off last night at the A Diamond. The Giants got things rolling in the top of the 1st inning off of Whiz pitcher Jeff Friedman. Leadoff batter Paul Scutieri got things going with a lead off double. The 2nd batter, George Perry walked, followed by a Carlos Llera base hit to load the bases. Ron McCarthy hit a sac fly to score the 1st run by the Giants. With 2 outs, the number 6 batter Scott Bonanno hit a single to score the 2nd run of the inning for the Giants. The Whiz were able to get back into the game and take the lead in the bottom of the 2nd. The 6th and 7th batters reached base on errors. With 2 outs, Greg Mangione had an RBI single, followed by Pete Geanellis with a 2 RBI double. Whiz up 3-2 after 2 innings. Bottom of the 4th, Doug Reisinger had a single, followed by a walk to Gene Hallenbeck. Paul Graziano sac bunted the runners over. Jim Hicks hit the ball to the infield that allowed 2 runs to score. The Whiz scored 3 more in the bottom of the 5th. Mike Kane led off the inning with a double, followed by a walk to Mangione. Geanellis had a 2RBI single. Bob Holmes reached base on a fielders choice and scored on a single by Jeff Friedman. Score after 5 innings Giants 2, Whiz 8. The Whiz scored 4 more in the bottom of the 6th. Reisinger reached on an error, Hallenbeck walked. Graziano had an RBI double, followed by a 2 RBI double by Hicks. Joe Burns walked, followed by an RBI single by Kane to envoke the 10 run mercy rule. After a rough 1st inning, Friedman only allowed 5 runners to reach base over the next 5 innings. He finished with 4 K, 3 BB, while giving up 4 hits. For the Giants, Jim Konstantakis and Carlos Llera shared the mound. They combined to give up 11 hits, 4 BB and 1 HBP. Final score Giants 2 - Whiz 12.
