Old guys aren't supposed to have this much fun ...

but we, on the over-62 Americans, did this past season.

We're a lucky bunch: we won some (9, counting playoffs), lost some (8), and laughed a lot.

The Yankees Tim Brown wrote a fine write-up here on the bulletin board of the playoff contest which turned out to be our final game, a
taut 2-0 loss to Tim's Yankees on Tuesday, August 29 at the A Diamond.

Yankees' starter Craig Miller and the Americans' Mike Kane each put on a remarkable display of talent, determination and plain
ol' good pitching stuff. It was marvelous to see, even if you were one of those who didn't get a hit.

My guess, if I can speak for my teammates, is that we're grateful for at least four things: the game itself, mostly sunny weather, our health,
and all the guys in the five other teams, the Arachnids, the Cardinals, the Pirates, the Peppers and the Yankees, that we faced this season.

Y'all made it livelier and more interesting than if you weren't there, that's for sure.

So, if you can see the photo below, we tip our caps to the game and to you all.

Thanks for the good times.

-Mike

P.S. Those tipping caps in the photo below, from left to right: Mike LaBarge, manager; Mike Hart, Ben Petrone, Vinny Koster, Jim Porter,
Ralph Caputo, Mike Aiello, Rich Garbarino, Mike Kane, Anthony Torre, Gibby Travis, Jim Konstantakis.

Players missing are team founder Brad Buchan, Don Ball, Jesse Braverman, Ed Rogers and Scott Ross,

Mike, I think you nailed the sentiments of the vast majority of guys who are still suiting up to play in the 62s. No better word sums it up than grateful. A tip of the cap back to you and your Americans.

Thanks, Tim. It's very nice of you to say that.

If it's possible to wish both over-62 teams, the Anacrids and Yankees, luck tonight and tomorrow, I would.

Actually it is:

It's the luck of having one or two more good games, which, given the qualities of both teams, you should have.

One more thing I'm grateful for besides having good games? That you, and others (so many names to put here, but they
would include Don Ball, Mike Girard, Lex Herlett, Rob Currier, Jim Edelman, Gene Hallenbeck, John Corrigan, Jim Dalton,
Harold Jenkins, Jim Konstantakis and, the one who keeps the keel board straight, John Reel, along with an apology for
any others my faulty memory omits) regularly write stories and updates on what's happening with teams and within the league.

Those stories, along with the games themselves, help keep us all upright, laughing and looking forward to the next game.
They're the glue that makes the CDMSBL more than six letters. They help keep us together. Thank you for that.

-Mike
