Players from CDMSBL and Long Island MSBL played an inaugural doubleheader at Doubleday Field Saturday, September 30 to honor the memory of John Newman who played in both leagues and passed away far too soon this past July from a very aggressive form of pancreatic cancer. The weather in Cooperstown was spectacular although most of the guys from L.I. drove 8+ hours to Cooperstown Friday afternoon due to severe flooding in the NYC metro area. A trip that should have taken about 4 hours. Participants from CDMSBL were Jim Edelman, Stefan Koutsakis, Kenny Wellington, Tom King, Eddie Draves, Jim Wing, Joe Parker, Jim Kidd, Ted Witting, John Reel, Ben Phillips, Jeff Whitehead, and Rickybobby Fleurant. Long Island took the first game 7-6 and the CDMSBL team came back to win the second 11-6. Lots of fun. Lots of hits. Lots of new friends. Well do it again, if the good Lords willing and the creeks dont rise, next year.

Thank you Jim for organizing this wonderful event with John's Long Island teammates. It was a wonderful way to remember a fantastic teammate, friend and an overall great person who left us far too soon. It was an honor to remember John playing the game he loved. R.I.P. John.
