After a quick sandwich and chips break, after their game one win, the Cubs got right to it in game two vs the 2-0 Nova Scotia Giants. After a scoreless top of the first for the Giants, the Cubs plated 10 runs on 9 hits in the bottom half of the inning. Tony Nardacci led off with a walk and Shawn Martin was hit by a pitch. One out later, Mike Girard singled home Nardacci. Dave Mitchell followed with a RBI single; Pat Martone walked; and Pete Geanellis followed with a RBI single. Tim Brown provided a 2-RBI hit on his birthday and one out later Ron Massaroni got a 2-RBI single of his own. Kevin Carpenter singled and John Cortese followed with a RBI single. A 2-RBI single by Nardacci closed out the scoring in the inning.
Bob Bolt pitched two scoreless innings, and the Cubs were back at it in the bottom of the second. Geanellis, Brown, Steve Lounello, Carpenter, and Cortese had the hits in a 4-run inning. Up two touchdowns, the Cubs added 3 more in the 3rd and 1 more in the 4th to create a mercy rule early ending to the game. When the smoke cleared, the Cubs owned a 18-3 win and improved to 3-0 in the round robin.
Today's game starts at 1:45 pm vs the Richmond Riverdogs. Time to go 4-0. Girard will start with an opportunity to redeem himself.
