6/25 Twins bats come alive…..Twins vs. Pirates Recap

The Twins and Pirates squared off Tuesday Night at Watervliet High School on a warm and humid night.

The Twins bats came ready to hit against the Swashbucklers. After 1-2-3 top of the 1st inning, the Twins scored 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 Buco errors to take a 3-0 lead.

The Pirates tried to get their offense going in the top of the 2nd inning. Leadoff batter John Haff reached first base on an error. Twins pitcher Gary Webber retired the next two batters. After a walk, Webber recorded a strikeout to end the threat. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Twins put up 8 runs on 7 hits, 1 HBP and 1 error, pushing the score to 11-0.

Webber kept the Pirates scoreless in the top of the 3rd, facing 4 batters and allowing only 1 hit. The bottom of the inning saw the Twins score 3 more runs on 4 hits and 1 error.

In the top of the 4th, Webber retired the first two batters before lefty John Haff launched a booming fly ball to RF at the base of the fence for a triple. Webber then got the next batter to pop out to first base to keep the Bucos scoreless. The Twins scored 1 additional run in the bottom of the 4th on a walk and two singles, stretching the score to 15-0.

Twins Rodney Smith relieved Webber in the top of the 5th inning. After striking out the leadoff hitter, the next batter reached first-base on a HBP. Smith then got the next batter to hit into a 4-6-3 double play to end the game.
