We have seen a number of games cancelled this season due to a high heat index. A game between the 55+ Dodgers and Yankees was cancelled in June for this reason.
The decision to cancel a game can be difficult for the GMs. Some team members want to play regardless of the weather forecast. Some guys have health concerns and are reluctant to play in high heat or on a muddy field or in other adverse conditions.
I would ask our board of directors - perhaps with some guidance from any doctors who play in the CDMSBL - to establish a heat index number that would serve as the standard for the heat cancellation decision. If the heat index is above the standard, the scheduled game is automatically cancelled. If the heat index is below the standard, game on. That standard might be different for each age group. Having a standard would make the play or cancel decision more comfortable for the GMs.
Having said that, I hope the 62+ Americans and Yankees play tonight. It's only going to be 87 at game time!
