It was a sunny, cool, and windy evening at New Scotland last night as the defending champion Arachnids faced the sixth seed Pirates in the first game of the 62 playoffs. After all the rain we have been getting lately, the field was in surprisingly fine condition with the majority of the water being around the backstop area. The Pirates, who were missing a couple of key starters, and that always comes back to bite you, had Jimmy Dalton on the mound. The spiders struck quickly scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the first, with the big hit being a double by Kenny Wellington, knocking in two runs. The home team scored another run in the bottom of the second making it 5-0 and it stayed that way until the bottom of the fifth. The Pirates saw the cagey Dalton pitch a complete game, while the Arachnids sent five different players to the hill. Leading the offense for the Arachnids were Stefan Koutsakis 4-4 and two hits each for Darrell Duncan, Kenny Wellington, and TJ Scorsone. McCauley and Stanley each had a hit for the Pirates. Final score 11-0 Arachnids.
