Ladies & Gents: In case you missed it: A game for the ages.
The Los Angeles Dodgers walloped the Miami Marlins on Thursday night, Sept. 19, by a 20-4 score.
This was the line of the Dodgers leadoff hitter. I love just reading it:
Player .......................... AB R H BB RBI HR 17 Shohei Ohtani DH ...... 6 .4 . 6 .0 . 10 .. 3
In the event you missed the news: Ohtani put up numbers prompting some reporters to call his game the best hitter's game ever. That's in part because Ohtani not only hit three home runs but he also stole three bases and hit a double, the two-sacker for good measure, I suppose.
And his numbers also meant this: So far this season, Ohtani is the sole member of the 50-50 club, as in 50 homers and 50 steals.
I'm going back to looking at the line.
Amazing.
-Mike
P.S. Come to think of it, I don't understand this: Why, after Ohtani hit his first homer, didn't the Fish just walk the guy? Didn't nobody ever read Satchel Paige's great piece of advice for pitchers?
Which is: "If a man can hurt you, walk him."
