55 TWINS TAKE IT ON THE CHIN VS WHIZ

Another cool night for baseball in Schenectady last evening. Final score Whiz over the Twins 148. The Whiz had 11 hits while the TWINS had 17 hits. 7 Twins had a multiple hit game as did 3 of the Whiz. The big difference was four twins pitchers were charged with 15 walks while the Whiz pitching staff was charged with two walks. Yes, sometimes you are the windshield and sometimes you are the bug. No public comment on the plate umpire from me.

Did the game go 7 innings? Hard to imagine with 18 total walks and 2 hit batters.

Yes, the game did go the full seven innings. And yes, it is hard to imagine, and even harder to view, a home plate umpire, charging all those walks in a game with 15 of them going against one team. Never seen anything like it. Somebody was dreaming and it wasnt the players. Granted, the twins pitchers werent super sharp, but they werent nearly as bad as the stats indicate.

The home plate umps strike zone was chin to shin, and chalk-to-chalk, whatever he felt like calling. A few called third strikes were not in the zone or hittable, and a few called balls looked like strikes. It became a guessing game for batters. I understand widening the strike zone a bit to keep the game moving, however I do believe a third strike needs to be accurate.
