BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM – 55 YANKEES CAN HIT SAY THE TWINS

Well, the visiting Yankees came out of the gate quietly, getting retired 1 23 by Twins starter Gary Webber. And the home team TWINS looked like they might be on their way by putting runners at second and third with no outs via two singles and 3 stolen bases in the bottom of the first. However, Yankees starter Dave Smitherman buckled down and the next three hitters didnt get the ball out of the infield. 00 after one. Looked like it might be setting up for a fine pitchers duel. However,, top of the second saw the Yankees score 5 runs on six hits. Every hit was tagged. Bottom of the second Stefon Koutsakis leads off by getting hit hard near his left elbow. Terry McCarthy walks. Mark WIGHT hits a single and Joe HAUSER brings home McCarthy with a sacrifice fly to center. 5-1 Yankees after two full. The Twins opt to stay with Webber on the mound who holds the Yankees to just 1 run and 2 hits over the next 4 innings. Meanwhile, the TWINS quietly tack on three runs over the same period to make it a 6-4 ballgame in favor of the Yankees entering the 7th. Unfortunately for the TWINS, the Yankees put on their hitting shoes again, and plated seven runs in the top of the 7th. To their credit, the TWINS pushed across one more run in the bottom of the seventh making the final score13-5 Yankees. The Yankees had two huge innings, one early and one late, and you wonder how that happens sometimes. In those two innings they looked like they could hit anything anybody threw any time. Something to think about. Baseball is a funny game and can be that way. I could blame it on the double cataract surgeries TWINS pitcher Webber had 2 weeks ago, but thats just idle speculation. Gary was pretty darn sharp for5 out of 7 innings. .The Yankees banged out 17 hits with Chad Bowman, Dave Smitherman, and Darrell Duncan each with three hits Dave Leonard also went two for three-both doubles. Lex HERRLETT relieved Smitherman in the third inning to pick up the win.The TWINS wound up with nine hits. Frank Owens and Mark Wight had two hits each.
