The Cubs and Americans got together for a 55+ tilt on Tuesday night, at the always beautiful Watervliet High School field.
The Cubs won, what could have been called a sloppy game, 15-2. The Cubs garnered 13 hits and 8 walks to push across 15 runs, with the help of 4 American's errors. The Americans were only able to pus across 2 runs, 1 of which was unearned, as the Cubs committed 3 errors of their own. Cubs pitchers also gave up 2 walks and hit 3 American's batters.
The real difference in the game was the job that Jim Bonaparte did on the mound for the Cubs. Jim gave up just 3 singles and 1 earned run, in his 5 innings of work. Jim hit 2 of the first 3 batters he faced, and gave up a RBI single to Barry Jackson to give the Americans a 1-0 lead after 1. For the other 4 innings he gave up just one walk, 2 singles, and an unearned run, while striking out 4. Matt Miles came on to pitch a scoreless 6th to close out the game, giving up just 2 walks, while not allowing a batted ball to leave the infield.
The Cubs offense was led by Dan Hernandez and Sherwin So, who each had two hits and drove in two runs. Eleven other Cubs had one hit each. Bonaparte walked 3 times, had a single, and scored 4 runs. John Coulombe walked twice and scored 3 runs.
The 3 hits from the Americans came from Barry Jackson, Vinnie Koster, and Dave Reed.
The Cubs moved to 4-0 with the victory, with a game Thursday night vs the Dodgers, right back at Watervliet High School.
