A Diamond. 8:15 start. The air finally leaning towards summertime. Finally. The always formidable Dodgers sent six men to the plate in the top of the first with leadoff hitter HAROLD STAULTERS (single) coming around to score the first run of the game after two hits and a walk. I am always uncomfortable when our opponents score first. The Twins got a run of their own in the bottom of the first when Steve Rychcik hit a one out double and came around to score on a two out single by Ricky Saidenberg. 1-1 ball game after one full. The Twins added another run in the third as Jeff Cohen led off by reaching first on an E-6 and eventually came on to score via a fielders choice by Rychcik. 2-1 Twins after 3. After a couple of strategic adjustments by the Twins battery, pitcher Jeff Whitehead, and non catcher, catcher for the evening, Frank Owens, Whitehead retired eight of the next nine Dodgers. However, the Dodgers tied it up in the top of the fourth when after one out MARC Trincello singled and eventually scored after a TWINS E-6 and a couple of bases on balls. The bottom of the fourth saw the Twins take control of the game as they scored six runs on five hits, several stolen bases, a hit batter, and a walk. The Twins offense continued to produce in the 5th and 6th as they plated 4 more runs making the final score 12-2 Twins. Jeff Whitehead pitched a four hitter, striking out 4, and walked five. Three Dodgers pitchers allowed 10 hits, struck out three, hit two batters, and issued four walks. The Dodgers have a lot of very fine players, and a couple of them hit the ball so hard (Jim Bradley) I dont know how the cover stayed on the ball. If Twins left fielder Mark Wight hadnt caught the line drive that Bradley hit TO THE WALL in the third inning, I think it wouldve gone right through him. For the Twins, RYCHCIK (double), WHITEHEAD, SAIDENBERG, and WIGHT had two hits each . JIM BRADLEY had two hits for the Dodgers.
